As you enter Maryland Oaks and gaze upon the forty-eight neat, well-kept homes with a colorful family playground, you are enveloped by a sense of stability and hope.
The sounds of bouncing basketballs and children’s laughter saturate the air, and it is easy to conclude that families benefit from solid housing opportunities.
The challenges of raising children are numerous, even for those who have been blessed with supportive families and financial means. Imagine being a single parent with a very limited income and little to no support system; the challenges can be overwhelming. Good News Outreach’s Maryland Oaks Crossing housing program addresses the needs of single parents by offering safe, quality, rent-subsidized housing on the west side of Tallahassee.
Maryland Oaks Crossing, with its paved roads and landscaped grounds, laundry facilities, on-site housing director, and burgeoning community center, provides the opportunity for at-risk families to improve their life situations.
The campus community center boasts a learning lab, complete with separate computer rooms for adults and children, a day room with a television, library, space for meetings. Bible Study classes and other educational offerings are also offered in the community center.
We are grateful to the Chapman Community Health Program for their partnership with Good News Outreach at Maryland Oaks Crossing. They provide health screenings, tutoring, and special events. Even more important to us are the wonderful relationships that are established between our residents and these great role models!
