The Ministry
Volunteers from Good News Outreach Elder Services provide predictable, caring involvement to about 100 elderly persons who have experienced a disconnect from family and friends. We reconnect them to the living body of Christ by offering Christian companionship and material help.

We target two particular groups for our no-cost services. We seek under-served at-home senior citizens who need some help to maintain a dignified existence; and we care for nursing home clients whose families are less than fully involved in their care.
Typically, clients struggle below the poverty level. Often, they are on waiting lists for other programs. Many no longer have friends or family. Most cry out for some word of acknowledgement that they aren’t forgotten. Many simply hunger for the human contact of a handshake and a monthly visit and dialogue.
To each, Good News Outreach volunteers provide companionship, food and other material assistance, spiritual companionship, transportation for shopping or appointments, and when needed, yard and house cleaning and light home repairs.
Most importantly, we address loneliness, which Mother Teresa calls mankind’s worst scourge. Our "Phone Pal" program offers a periodic call from a volunteer just to say, "Hello, I’m thinking about you!"
Assisting with tasks that are routine for the able-bodied, such as taking out the garbage or changing a light bulb, enables the elderly to overcome profound obstacles. Special holiday gifts, some made by youth volunteers, become priceless treasures.
Our Ongoing Needs
Our major need is a full roster of reliable, caring volunteers, willing to spend just a few hours each month to make a major difference in the life and outlook of those on our client base. We need “Phone Pals” too.
Youth groups, churches, and civic organizations can be particularly helpful, especially in sharing a commitment.
Volunteers sometimes act as spokespersons in area communities, generating interest and relating the Good News of our Elder Services program. All financial contributions go directly to client services. We always welcome financial support, but personal involvement is the best contribution – for Good News Outreach and for volunteers.
